Vice President for Global Public Policy, The Walt Disney Company
Mr. James Filippatos is Vice President for Global Public Policy at The Walt Disney Company where he is responsible for developing and directing the company's strategic international public policy initiatives. He focuses on Internet policy, human rights, children's issues and business entry and expansion in developing markets, among other areas. Before joining Disney, Jim served as senior counsel at the U.S. State Department and Assistant Administrator for International Affairs at the Federal Aviation Administration. Prior to that, he practiced law with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in Washington, DC, London and New York. Jim is a founding member of a partnership between an interdisciplinary group of Harvard University graduate students and alumni and Confraternidad Carcelaria del Ecuador (CCE), an NGO that works with prisoners, their families and victims of crime in Ecuador. He has also developed and taught an International Business, Human Rights and Social Responsibility course at Jilin and Northeast Normal Universities in Changchun, China, the first such course taught at a Chinese law school. Jim is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and a summa cum laude graduate of Georgetown University. He speaks Greek, Spanish and conversational Italian. Jim and his wife have a son and a daughter and live in southern California.
