Inside the Core We Celebrate a Volume on Catholic Studies
Thursday, February 12, 2026
Ines Murzaku, Chair of Catholic Studies and Professor of Religion.
Our first Scholars’ Forum in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition for Spring 2026 will be focused on Ines Murzaku, Chair of the Catholic Studies Program and Joseph Rice, of Immaculate Conception Seminary and School of Theology, presenting on their newly released edited volume, An Interdisciplinary Pedagogical Model for Catholic Studies: Rooted in Vatican II, Growing Through the 21st Century (Springer, 2025). The book consists of a series of edited essays about Catholic Studies and is an important addition to the work in this growing field.
In his forward to the volume, Msgr. Joseph Reilly, President of Seton Hall University, notes: “At Seton Hall, where Catholic studies works closely with the faculties of religion, theology and the University Core Curriculum, it has served as a reference point for a fruitful intellectual dialogue. As our authors attest, each university or college setting will find its own paradigm for the participation of Catholic studies in its curriculum. What is beyond doubt is the contribution that Catholic studies can make, bringing the reflections of faith into interdisciplinary contexts where reason has often been left to fend for itself, almost as an orphan, in its approach to the truth.
Joseph Rice, Professor, Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology.
Furthermore, the following quote sums up the work’s importance: “This volume is an indispensable resource for faculty and scholars in Catholic Studies worldwide who are committed to integrating faith and reason. It aligns with Pope Francis’ description in Ad Theologiam Promovendam of a transdisciplinary approach in theology, which invigorates all disciplines against the backdrop of the Light and Life offered by the Wisdom emanating from God’s Revelation,” as stated by Cardinal Joseph Tobin, C.Ss.R.DD., Chair, Board of Trustees and President, Board of Regents, Seton Hall University, Archbishop of Newark, NJ on the book’s cover.
