Seton Hall University, a renowned institution for academic excellence, has taken a pioneering step in shaping the future of the accounting profession with its CPA Pathway Apprenticeship Program. In collaboration with WithumSmith+Brown, CPA, a leading national advisory, accounting, and consulting firm, Seton Hall is providing a unique opportunity for aspiring accountants to gain real-world experience while completing their final credits for CPA eligibility. With the success of the pilot program, which commenced in the 2023 academic year, Seton Hall University and Withum are pleased to announce their renewal of the program and are looking for interested participants for the second program cohort beginning in Fall 2024.
Seton Hall's CPA Pathway Apprenticeship Program is a cutting-edge initiative that bridges the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. This work-for-credit program is designed to immerse participants in the dynamic world of accounting, preparing them for the challenges they will face as future Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).
Through this program, students earn a full-time professional salary while:
• Studying to pass the CPA exam;
• Completing the 150-credit educational requirement for CPA certification;
• Meeting the one-year experience requirement.
The strategic partnership with Withum, a firm known for its commitment to excellence and innovation in the accounting industry, is one of the first of its kind in the nation. Withum's expertise, resources, and industry connections provide participants with a unique learning environment that goes beyond traditional classroom settings.
The program currently boasts six dedicated participants, all of whom are Seton Hall accounting alumni. These individuals are completing their final credits for CPA eligibility through this innovative apprenticeship. The participants bring a diverse range of skills, experiences and perspectives to the program, creating a collaborative and enriching learning environment.
Among those students is Amaury Flores, who said, "Everyone knows how hard it is to obtain the CPA certification, and with this program, I am substantially closer to obtaining the certification. With the help of Seton Hall University and Withum, I can now continue my academic career with the people who helped me get here."
One of the program's standout features is the emphasis on real-world experience. Participants
work closely with Withum professionals on actual client projects, gaining hands-on
exposure to the complexities of the accounting profession. This practical experience
not only deepens their technical skills but also hones their ability to apply theoretical
knowledge in a professional context.
Through Seton Hall's partnership with Withum, participants have access to a vast network
of industry professionals. Networking events, mentorship programs, and collaborative
projects provide invaluable opportunities for participants to build relationships
with seasoned professionals, enhancing their prospects for future career success.
Seton Hall Accounting faculty provide meaningful mentorship and guidance through the
year long program, which culminates in a Certificate.
The new CPA Pathway Apprenticeship Program was designed to offer students an innovative model for preparing future professionals, linking the academic with the professional and providing students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities.
