Seton Hall University’s Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies offers immersive pre-college health sciences summer programs, offering students an exciting introduction to one of the most impactful and rapidly changing fields today. Designed for enthusiastic high school students, these programs provide a strong foundation into healthcare, fostering their curiosity while also helping students explore potential career paths in medicine, public health and specialized health fields.

This summer, students may enroll in, Introduction to Health Sciences and Health Careers and Topics in Women’s Healthcare, two programs that offer both a broad overview of the healthcare industry and a more focused look at key topics shaping modern medicine. Together, the programs help students build understanding, confidence and curiosity as they consider future studies in the health sciences.

Introduction to Health Sciences and Health Careers
2 Weeks: Half-Day
July 13-23

Introduction to Health Sciences and Health Careers is an immersive course ideal for students interested in STEM and health related fields. The program introduces students to foundational concepts in healthcare, from learning basic medical terminology to exploring how different health professions work together to support patient care and public health.

Through hands on learning and interactive workshops, students experience college level instruction while engaging in real world simulations of healthcare roles, including nurses, physicians and public health professionals. The course emphasizes how healthcare systems function and how collaboration across disciplines improves outcomes for individuals and communities.

The program is taught by Natalie Neubauer, assistant dean for Undergraduate and Clinical Education and associate professor in the Department of Speech Language Pathology. For students considering a future in medicine or those seeking to better understand the broad range of health professions, this course serves as an ideal first step into the health sciences.

Topics in Women’s Healthcare
1 Week: Half-Day
 July 20-24

Topics in Women’s Healthcare offers students a focused and meaningful exploration of one of the most essential and evolving areas of medicine. The program introduces key topics related to women’s health, including reproductive health, maternal health and broader health issues that affect women across different stages of life.

Building on foundational health science concepts, the course sheds light on the healthcare disparities women experience and examines how social, scientific and systemic factors contribute to these challenges. Students are encouraged to think critically about access to care, health outcomes and equity while developing a deeper awareness of the role healthcare professionals and researchers play in addressing these issues.

The program is taught by Angela Baglio, faculty associate in the Department of Biological Sciences, and Jessica Cottrell, department chair and associate professor of Biological Sciences. Designed for students interested in science and passionate about helping others, the course fosters curiosity, empathy and a growing sense of responsibility as participants consider how they might contribute to improving the future of healthcare for women.
