Heart of the University, Faculty Retreat Series 2019-2020 - Seton Hall University
Wednesday, February 26, 2020
The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.
The fourth retreat, given by Gregory Floyd, Ph.D. on the theme of "The Idea of a University and Healing: Bias, Development, and Authenticity," will be held on from 9– 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2020, in the Chancellors Suite, lower level, Student Center.
Our classrooms are places of transformation for our students, but also for their professors. We pay attention to the former, but don't often make time to reflect on the latter. How does our work challenge us to grow? How can it tend toward disintegration? When does it lead to deeper integration? How can impediments in our teaching and research become not only problems to be solved, but opportunities for growth? At this retreat we will reflect on the internal dynamics of the academic life with guidance from some masters of the philosophical and religious traditions.
Gregory Floyd, Ph.D is a faculty member in the Department of the Core. He specializes in contemporary European philosophy and the philosophy of religion. He is co-editor of the forthcoming volume, The Catholic Reception of Continental Philosophy in North America.
