Catholic Universities in Dialogue about Mission and Identity

The Department of Catholic Studies is pleased to co-sponsor with the Catholic University of Santa Fe in Argentina "An Integrated Approach to Catholic Mission and Identity: Catholic Universities in Dialogue," a panel discussion. This event, made possible through collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Argentina, will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 3 p.m. EDT via Zoom.
Join Zoom meeting. This discussion, moderated by Bryan Meadows, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies, Director of the TESOL Program, Director of ESL Services, will feature an exploration of the meaning and implementation of Catholic mission in Catholic universities in the United States and Argentina. Panelists will include Ines Murzaku, PhD, Director of Catholic Studies; Reverend Gerald Buonopane, PhD, Minister to the Priest Community; and Pbro. Lic. Carlos Scatizza, Vice Rector at the Catholic University of Santa Fe.
Dr. Murzaku and Fr. Buonopane will address the role of Catholic Studies, clergy presence, and the infusion of Catholic values in the University experience at Seton Hall. Fr. Scatizza will discuss the history of the Catholic University of Santa Fe, as well as the university's educational model and the education plan in philosophy and theology, present initiatives, and goals for the future.
"We are thrilled to have this opportunity for international collaboration with the Catholic University of Santa Fe and the U.S. Embassy in Argentina," said Dr. Murzaku. "It always helps us as faculty and administrators—as well as students, alumni, and other stakeholders—to see how our approach to Catholic Studies compares to the lived experience of Catholic mission in other universities throughout the world."
Dr. Murzaku went on to explain, "Our Catholic Studies program's mission is: 'The Catholic Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum for students of any creed who are interested in deepening their knowledge of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. It combines the study of history, philosophy, diplomacy, theology, literature, art, nursing, the sciences and other disciplines.' Catholic Studies focuses on the Church's dialogue with culture and encounter with the world. This event gives us an opportunity to dialogue with others in another hemisphere—sharing, listening, learning, and growing."
Dr. Maria Luisa Gutiérrez Peart, Head of Internationalization at the Catholic University of Santa Fe, explained that the university is "developing a program at called the 'American Studies Program,' sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Argentina. Its purpose is to strengthen links with American institutions and academics through initiatives and activities related to different topics." This event, with the cooperation of Seton Hall faculty and administrators, will provide a unique opportunity for the Catholic University of Santa Fe to share with the members of its community some of the best practices in Catholic Studies and Catholic Mission that have been developed at Seton Hall.
"We are looking forward to this event, and we are looking ahead to future collaboration with both the Catholic University of Santa Fe and the U.S. Embassy in Argentina," said Dr. Murzaku.
