Tuesday, May 5, 2026
The Catholic Studies Program at Seton Hall University is pleased to announce the publication of the Stanley Jaki Foundation International Congress 2024, an edited volume by Father Paul Haffner and Father Joseph R. Laracy, that gathers
leading scholarship at the intersection of philosophy, theology and science. The congress
was the fruit of collaboration involving the Stanley Jaki Foundation with Seton Hall’s
Program in Catholic Studies, the Department of Physics, Immaculate Seminary School of Theology, the Core Curriculum Program, the Center for Catholic Studies and the chapter of the Society of Catholic Scientists. Published by Gracewing in the U.K., the book presents peer-reviewed proceedings
from the international conference held on campus in 2024, continuing a distinguished
tradition of interdisciplinary engagement inspired by the legacy of Distinguished
Professor of Physics Father Stanley L. Jaki, O.S.B.
The congress and resulting volume reflect the central concerns of Jaki’s work, including the relationship between Christian faith and scientific inquiry, the metaphysical foundations of modern science, and the role of Christian culture in its development. Haffner, a Catholic Studies adjunct, is widely recognized for his definitive intellectual biography of Jaki, Creation and Scientific Creativity: A Study in the Thought of S. L. Jaki, which remains a key resource for scholars in theology and science. Other Seton Hall faculty members on the congress’ program committee include Father Gerald Buonopane, Professor Sulie Chang, Father Joseph Laracy, Professor Jose Lopez, Professor Ines Murzaku, Professor M. Alper Sahiner and Professor Stacy Trasancos.
The volume also highlights the broader academic ecosystem at Seton Hall that offers a robust portfolio of courses exploring theology and science within the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. These efforts are further advanced through the Stanley Jaki Academy for Theology and Science, which promotes interdisciplinary research, teaching and public engagement. The publication of these proceedings underscores the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering serious scholarship at the intersection of philosophy, theology and the sciences, in continuity with the enduring legacy of Father Jaki.
