The New Jersey Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (NJ ASPA) recently presented its highest student honor – and the honoree is a proud Pirate.

Lisa DeLuca, a student in Seton Hall’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program with a specialization in Data Visualization, was named Student of the Year during the NJ ASPA’s annual Public Service Awards Reception on April 18. “The American Society for Public Administration is the most respected society of public and nonprofit administrators in the country,” says Roseanne Mirabella, professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs. “We are indeed honored that the New Jersey Chapter selected a Seton Hall student as the first graduate public administration student to receive this honor.”

DeLuca earned this distinction for her outstanding work as a graduate student in the MPA program. She best exemplifies the spirt of public service, in addition to outstanding academic performance in her public administration classes. She stands apart from her peers due to her active participation in class discussions, insightful ideas and ability to lead peers in small group discussion.

In addition to her public administration work, DeLuca is also the social sciences librarian for Seton Hall’s University Libraries and the liaison to the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, as well as the Political Science and the History Departments. Her research interests include helping students and faculty enhance their research output with data visualization and digital humanities. She received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her master’s in library science from Rutgers University. Prior to this, she held corporate training and financial technology management positions in financial services.

Seton Hall’s MPA degree serves students interested in careers in the public and nonprofit sectors. Ranked #17 in the country for nonprofit management by U.S. News & World Report, the program is accredited by NASPAA and offers concentrations in Health Policy and Management; Nonprofit Organization Management; Public Service: Leadership, Governance and Policy; and Data Visualization and Analytics.
