Tuesday, March 9th, 2021
Poetry-in-the-Round hosts Guggenheim fellow Jennifer Grotz on Tuesday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. EST in a free online event.
Jennifer Grotz is the author of three books of poetry, most recently Window Left Open (Graywolf, 2016). Also a translator from the French and Polish, her forthcoming translation is Everything I Don't Know, the selected poems of Jerzy Ficowski, co-translated from the Polish with Piotr Sommer. Her poems, reviews, and translations have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The Nation, The New Republic, New York Review of Books, Ploughshares, New England Review, and in five volumes of the Best American Poetry anthology. The recipient of a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award, Grotz has also received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. Director of the Bread Loaf Writers' Conferences, she teaches at the University of Rochester.
Grotz's first book of poetry, Cusp, was published to acclaim. Her second book of poetry, The Needle, named a best book of the year by NPR, explores both Polish and American twentieth-century poetry and its traditions. Of The Needle, The Washington Post writes, "Grotz's perspective makes her work feel objective and insightful, even when she writes about family tragedies. Her ability to balance artistry and emotion results in buoyant poetry." Publishers Weekly says of Window Left Open, her most recent book of poetry, "Grotz establishes an intimacy with her readers through the deconstruction of personal moments" as she "renders the quotidian into devastating vulnerability."
The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome. Please click here to Register.
