The Hajek Family: A Rising Legacy
The Hajek family shares their excitement as a Seton Hall legacy family, reflects on where their journey started, and expresses words of encouragement to their son who is carrying on their legacy.
Legacy families consist of students and alumni whose family members – including parents, grandparents, and/or siblings – attended or currently attend Seton Hall University. A legacy family has one or more generations of Pirate graduates.
Do you come from a long line of Pirates? Is your family #HallLegacy? If your answer is yes, you are eligible to enter our 2022 Legacy Family Challenge and be crowned the Seton Hall Legacy Family of the Year.

The Field Family legacy at Seton hall dates back to the early 1950. My grandfather,
James Field, was raised as a Catholic and grew up in Newark, New Jersey, during the
great depression. James came from a lower-class family, they had little to no money.
After graduating from Saint James High School in Newark, he decided to attend Seton
Hall University. He did not attend day classes, because he still had to work to pay
his tuition. James attended Seton Hall for 2 years before being drafted into the Army
for the Korean War. He was sent overseas and placed on the front lines. While in the
Korean War James received the Bronze Star for bravery in his actions in combat. After
the war, he decided to return to Seton Hall and complete his degree. While working
as a clerk in the United States Post Office, in Newark, from midnight to 8 am, he
also attended classes full-time at Seton Hall. James' schedule was busy, but he kept
going and had faith in completing his degree. When times were difficult for him he
would find his way to the Chapel on campus. He would sit there and pray the rosary
to help clear his mind. After all the hard work James put in and a small detour, he
finally graduated in May of 1954 and was awarded his BA in Social Studies, English,
and Spanish. He went on to be a successful Superintendent of Schools in Paulsboro,
Upper Freehold, and Buena, New Jersey. James passed away in May 2015. His Legacy attending
Seton Hall was passed onto three of his four children. My Uncle, Mark Field, attended
Seton Hall and graduated in 1984. My Aunt, Margaret Field, attended Seton Hall and
graduated in 1982 with a BS in Special Education and Elementary Education. She currently
teaches special education at a private school in Pennsylvania. My father, Stan Field,
graduated from Seton Hall with a Master's Degree in Administration in 2001. He did
this while actively working as a New Jersey State Trooper. He has since retired as
a Captain from the New Jersey State Police and is currently working as the Chief Information
Security Officer for the County of Cumberland, New Jersey. I visited Seton Hall with
my father during college tours. During the tour, we entered the Chapel to say a prayer.
My father now carries my grandfather's Rosary Beads with him wherever he goes. The
same Rosary Beads that my grandfather prayed with in the Chapel in the 1950s. As we
both kneeled to pray, we both felt an overwhelming calming presence. The presence
of the Holy Spirit was felt all around us. This experience helped me decide that Seton
Hall was the right place. Not only that, but everyone was so caring and went out of
their way to make me feel at home. As I walk to class each day, I know that my family
is proud that I am a Seton Hall student. I know that my grandfather is smiling down
on me and carrying on the Field Family Seton Hall Legacy.

Our experience was varied and great. I met the mother of my three children and Dan
met his wife. I'm very involved at the school, especially athletics. We consider The

I met my husband at Seton Hall and got married at the Immaculate conception on campus.
Our son is now attending. We love the Hall! We go to basketball games and many events
on campus. I work as a teacher at Union Catholic and just took my students on a tour
and they could feel all the love I feel for The Hall. Seton Hall will always be home
to the Rossi family!
