What Great Minds Can Do: Anne Cantine

Nursing was a natural calling for Anne given her caring and compassionate heart and her desire to do good work with the gifts God gave her. Immediately, Anne found a home at Seton Hall and felt embraced by the faculty and community at Seton Hall which were supportive and welcoming, especially the faculty who were always available.

Anne was drawn to Seton Hall's Catholic mission and appreciated that Seton Hall allowed her to grow in her faith and make this just as much a priority as her studies. At Seton Hall, there is a genuine caring and concern for serving society. Developing students who will be servant leaders dedicated to making a difference in the world is a cornerstone of our mission. Through DOVE (the Division of Volunteer Efforts), Anne strengthen her commitment to helping others. She participated in may service activities such as visiting nursing homes, tutoring underprivileged children and serving food at local soup kitchens. Anne also went on two DOVE service trips, one to Haiti and one to El Salvador where she worked in rural clinics and orphanages performing basic first aid and healthcare education. In addition, Anne went to Honduras and Mexico on Mission trips to help local communities.

Her nursing education provided her extensive clinical experience and taught her how to be a skilled, competent and compassionate professional. During her time at Seton Hall, not only did she apply the skills she was learning in the real world during her service trips abroad but also by assisting with campus outreach programs such as blood drives and blood pressure clinics for the Seton Hall and local South Orange communities. Anne also worked extensively with one of Seton Hall's close affiliates, Overlook Hospital, serving as a patient care technician and doing an internship in the intensive care unit. Her training, competence and preparation landed her a full-time job as an Intensive Care Nurse at this very same hospital right after graduation.

Anne was also active in community life at Seton Hall pursing a multidisciplinary certificate in gerontology, serving as an active member of Sigma Theta Tau: Gamma NU, working for campus ministry and serving on Seton Hall's Curriculum Committee.

Seton Hall was like a family for Anne, safe, friendly and full of happy memories and lasting friendships. Anne said, "Seton Hall is imbedded in my blood now" and will probably be in her life forever because this is where she met her husband.
