Summer 2023 Network Maintenance
Wednesday, July 12th, 2023
The Department of Information Technology performs annual maintenance on the University’s
technology infrastructure each summer. This maintenance is critical to ensure the
security, stability and reliability of the University’s technology. These important
tasks may necessitate a partial or complete campus-wide service outage. To minimize
the impact on our campus community, upgrades will be performed outside of normal operating
hours.
Core Switch Upgrade - Saturday, July 22 at 8:30 a.m.
One of the key components that drives the network is its core router/switches. These devices tie our networks to our host system platforms for Banner, Blackboard, Teams, etc.
The campus core upgrade will occur on the South Orange campus on Saturday, July 22 beginning at 8:30 a.m. As a result, there will be a campus-wide Internet outage for approximately 30 minutes, followed by scheduled maintenance windows for each building. During the upgrade, network services will be unavailable for users in the designated locations.

Upgrading our wireless systems will provide newer software to enhance the technology that we use to connect on our campuses. The one-hour maintenance window for the wireless systems upgrade is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 26 at 10 p.m. While minimal to no impact is expected while the upgrade is being performed, users may experience brief interruptions in Internet connectivity.
