Thursday, August 31st, 2023
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) welcomes 35 Student Technology Assistants (STAs) who will be working within various units of the DoIT to support the technological needs of the University. Kicking off the STA program for this academic year, PC Support Services coordinated a two-day orientation and onboarding session for the new hires. This year’s training focused on 'unlocking innovation,' with an emphasis on the importance of creativity, problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking in the technology field. Speakers from across the University participated in the successful training to engage the STAs in conversations around leadership, career navigation, customer service, and the integration of multimedia and emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
"This year, I was thrilled to host the STA training and welcome back our student workers. Our students are the future of the technology industry, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary skills and resources they need to grow and succeed in their careers. The training is an excellent opportunity for students to learn leadership skills, professionalism, and gain hands-on experience that will be transferable to any field they choose to pursue. We believe that their time with PC Support Services should be valuable and contributive to their personal and professional growth."
- Marsha Philemon, Assistant Director of Technology Operations Management
The STA program is structured around professional development and empowers student employees to become creative changemakers within their roles through the exploration and implementation of innovative solutions. Students in the program are given the opportunity to work side by side with professional staff from PCSS, Lab & Media Services, IT Security, Esports, Web and Digital Communications, Video Production, and Instructional Design to gain the technical and professional skills needed to be successful in today's technology-driven workplace. A critical component to the success of the program is the annual kickoff session designed to familiarize participants with the DoIT’s culture, policies, and procedures. The talented new cohort of STAs brings a diverse range of skills and perspectives that are sure to maximize the quality, effectiveness, and productivity of the program. The DoIT is excited to witness their growth and contributions to Seton Hall University’s digital transformation and seamless integration of technology into teaching, learning, and the overall university experience for all.
