Prepare for Registration with New Academic Planning Tools

Two smiling Seton Hall students sitting at a high top table and looking at an open laptop screen. With winter and spring registration just around the corner, Seton Hall University is pleased to announce the launch of two powerful academic planning tools, Degree Works and Plan Ahead. In conjunction with academic advising, these resources help students track their academic progress, plan future courses, and stay on track for graduation.

Degree Works: Your Academic Roadmap

Starting Monday, October 23, all undergraduate and graduate students on the South Orange and IHS campuses will have access to Degree Works! The web-based tool analyzes each student’s academic history and current course schedule, and provides a clear overview of which degree requirements they have fulfilled and which ones they still need to complete. With Degree Works, students can:

  • Easily find out if they have any registration holds, their advisors’ names, and their current declared major/minor.
  • Add planned courses and see how they fit into the student's degree requirements.
  • Run a 'What If' degree audit to determine how coursework can be applied toward another major, minor, certificate or concentration.
  • Estimate an overall GPA, or determine which grades are necessary to achieve a desired GPA, using the GPA calculator.

In advance of winter and spring registration, students are encouraged to review their Degree Works audit with their academic advisor. To access Degree Works, log into PirateNet, then select the Degree Works chiclet.

More information about Degree Works can be found online, including FAQs and How-To Guides. For questions or support, please contact [email protected]

Plan Ahead: Simplify Course Registration

Within the registration system you will also find a new feature, Plan Ahead, which helps streamline the course planning process. Plan Ahead enables users to create and save a tentative schedule for the upcoming semester. With Plan Ahead, students can:

  • Visualize course selections in a calendar grid ensuring that their schedule aligns with their academic and personal commitments.
  • Save a plan so that it is viewable by both the student and their student success and academic advisors.
  • Register directly from a saved plan once their assigned registration time slot opens.

The Plan Ahead feature is currently available for the Winter 2024 semester, and will become available for the Spring 2024 semester on Friday, October 27, to coincide with the posting of the course offerings for the term.
