Our Proud and Historic Lineage

Over the last 64 years Pirate Battalion has commissioned officers of the highest caliber into the United States Army. We proudly call them Pirate Alumni and their achievements in the military and civilian sector are unrivaled.

Nominations for the Alumni Hall of Fame

Our Hall of Fame recognizes graduates of the Seton Hall University Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps who distinguished themselves in military or civilian pursuits. It provides a prestigious and tangible means of honoring Seton Hall ROTC Alumni who have made lasting, significant contributions to the Nation, the Army, and the traditions of Seton Hall’s ROTC Program.

A nominee must be commissioned through Seton Hall’s ROTC Program. Nominees can be graduates from any affiliate schools and do not have to graduate from Seton Hall University. Nominations may also include those currently serving in the US Armed Forces or those who concluded their military service. The newest Alumni Hall of Fame inductee will be honored at our Annual Military Ball during the Spring Semester, so please submit your nominations today!

At the end of each academic year, four Pirate Battalion alumni will be inducted into the Pirate Battalion Alumni Hall of Fame. Nominations are accepted between September 1 and November 15.

Criteria »
- Must be submitted by cadet/cadre past or present
- Nominee must be Pirate Battalion Alumni (graduate from any cross-town school)
- Nominee may be past Cadre member • Only fully completed forms will be considered for Nomination
Procedure Information »
- No more than 4 Inductees will be chosen each academic year
- Nominations can be submitted between September 1st and November 15
- Selection is not guaranteed
- Nominee not selected may be nominated again the following year
- Inductees will be chosen by current Cadre and Cadet Leadership via a vote
- Inductee notified upon selection (family notified if Inductee is deceased)
- Induction into Hall of Fall will occur during Annual Pirate Ball

Major General Donald F. Campbell »
For over forty years, Judge Campbell served our nation, ultimately rising to the rank of Major General in the US Army Reserves. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1968 at the conclusion of his undergraduate studies at Seton Hall, and after attending U.S. Army Infantry and Intelligence Schools, he served a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. His lifelong dedication to service (both military and civil) was only just beginning.

After graduating from Seton Hall Law School, he opened his own law practice in 1972. Judge Campbell soon gained respect throughout the state, appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court in January of 1982 by Governor Brendan Byrne. Judge Campbell received "The 1995 Award of Merit" from the American Judges Association for his work in Haiti as the Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Justice, a position in which he also served in Iraq. As a result of his tireless efforts, in 2014, the West Point Association of New Jersey recognized him for his combined service to both the Judiciary and our nation.

Colonel Paul Monacelli »
The First Pirate Battalion Alumni formally inducted into the Hall of Fame is Colonel Paul Monacelli. Colonel Monacelli is an ROTC Scholarship recipient and Distinguished Military Graduate of Seton Hall University where he was the Cadet Battalion Commander, Pershing Rifles Company Commander and a founding member of the Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society. He volunteered for active duty in 1994 and served as Chief, Civil Military Operations for JTF Operation Support Hope (which dealt with the humanitarian crisis after the Rwandan genocide) and again in 1996 for Operation Guardian Assistance, Rwanda.

His public service included terms as a Councilman, Council President and Mayor of Orange, NJ. He has engaged in numerous civic activities to include serving as Chair of Employment Horizons which helps the developmentally disabled and has traveled several times to Nicaragua to build houses with the NGO Bridges to Community. He is also involved with the Careers for Life program of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research which assists veterans interested in careers in the insurance industry.

Distinguished Pirate Battalion Alumni

Additionally, it is our goal reconnect with our roots, the storied history and greatness, that Pirate Alumni helped create. The Cadets of Pirate Battalion are eager to learn about life in the military from those who have experienced it firsthand. By creating an Alumni Interest Group, it will provide our Alumni with the opportunity to mentor our Cadets and coach them through tough career decisions. By keeping in touch with the Pirate Battalion, Alumni will also receive semester newsletters, as well as invitations to upcoming Battalion events such as the Commissioning Ceremony and the Military Ball, both held in the Spring.
