Claudia Verónica Freire

Adjunct Professor of Spanish Language
Department of Languages Literatures and Cultures

Professor Freire has been teaching since 1999, and was awarded 2022 Adjunct of the Year by the College of Arts and Sciences. She provides instruction in various levels of Spanish and Psychology related topics such as Counseling Skills; Family and Marriage Counseling; Human Growth and Development; Ethical and Legal Implications in Counseling; Counseling Theory; Hispanic Culture; and the Spanish Language. She also has worked as an academic advisor, and she encourages students to never give up and continue pursuing a college education.

Her interests and passion for teaching stem from her childhood experiences, including being born and raised in El Salvador during a civil war and immigrating to the United States. Professor Freire was the first in her family to receive a college degree in the United States, and often shares her story on learning the English language and culture with students to inspire them to continue their studies. In her own words, "Getting an education was my American dream, and I know for sure that my students can finish and earn their degrees as well."
