The Pre-Professional Advising Center (P-PAC) continues to expand its presence in the field of pre-law advising. P-PAC Director Chantal Vergara and Pre-Law Advisor Maddie Ferrans were selected to present at the 2026 Southwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors (SWAPLA) Conference in San Antonio, Texas- a regional gathering of pre-law advising professionals dedicated to advancing best practices and strengthening support for students interested in legal careers.

During the conference, Vergara and Ferrans led an interactive workshop focused on building and sustaining a successful pre-law advising center. The session explored strategies for developing effective advising structures, creating meaningful student programming and supporting students as they prepare for the law school application process. The workshop also highlighted the importance of student engagement and strong institutional partnerships in preparing students for law school.

In addition to presenting, the P-PAC team had the opportunity to engage with colleagues from institutions across the region, participating in sessions on topics such as strategically supporting underrepresented students, emotional intelligence in advising, LSAT preparation strategies and effectively navigating the LSAC platform. These discussions offered valuable insight into emerging trends and resources that can further strengthen advising support for aspiring law students.

The conference provided an opportunity for Vergara and Ferrans to both share their expertise and learn from fellow advisors, bringing back new ideas and strategies that will continue to enhance the support P-PAC provides to students pursuing law school.
