Sunday, September 12, 2021
U.S. News & World Report's 2022 America's Best Colleges guide has again ranked Seton Hall University among the top tier of national universities and named it again to its lists of "A-Plus Schools for B Students," and "Top Performers for Social Mobility."
For 2022, Seton Hall's ranking rose six places from 133 to 127 among the nation's four-year public, private and for-profit national universities.
"The latest rankings are another indication of Seton Hall’s growing academic prominence and reputation," said Provost and Executive Vice President Katia Passerini. "The dedication and commitment of our faculty, deans, and academic support staff – along with an inquisitive student body - fosters a robust academic environment that demonstrates What Great Minds Can Do."
Last year the University also rose six places, marking a rise of 12 places in the rankings in just two years.
In the U.S News ranking there are 392 National Universities – 209 public, 179 private and four for-profit – derived by U.S. News from The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The placement of Seton Hall at 127 puts the University among the Top Third of all National Universities.
In recent years, Seton Hall has repeatedly broken records for applications, enrollment and diversity as well as SAT and ACT scores and has posted a four-year graduation rate that is more than 20 points higher than the last computed national average – all metrics that contribute to a school’s score in the U.S. News ranking. In addition, Seton Hall's "Peer Ranking," which measures the assessment of the University by top-level academics from other schools has again been "graded" at 3.0, steadily rising from 2.7 over the course of the last six years.
“Our world-class faculty and amazing internship and hands-on learning opportunities coupled with our beautiful suburban campus only minutes from New York City has made Seton Hall a destination place for the nation’s best and brightest,” said Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Alyssa McCloud. “And faculty and students alike here prove year after year what great minds can do, while these rankings and other various accolades with objective metrics recognize that – and the power of a Seton Hall degree.”
Seton Hall Means Business
The Stillman School of Business undergraduate program ranked at 106 in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report metric, up 10 from last year. In total, U.S. News measured 514 business programs across the United States for its ranking, with Stillman placing in the Top 20 percent of all schools.
The ranking for undergraduate business programs from U.S. News is based on “Peer Review” from leading business academics throughout the country.
Notably, the Stillman School’s Business Center of the Buccino Leadership Institute was named the nation's No. 1 leadership program of its kind five years in a row by HR.com and the school itself is among the select programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) – the highest standard of achievement for business schools, which is earned by only 5 percent of schools worldwide granting business degrees at the bachelor's level or higher. In addition, Stillman is also the only school in northern New Jersey with both business and accounting accreditation – making it one of only 188 institutions worldwide to hold an additional, specialized AACSB Accreditation.
Earlier this year in its graduate school rankings, U.S. News placed the Stillman part-time M.B.A. program at 73rd in the nation, rising 12 spots from last year and placing the program in the Top 75 in the United States.
“Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, located a short distance from the heart of the nation’s financial capital, provides an environment that propels both graduate and undergraduate students into leadership ranks in a wide range of business, corporate, and nonprofit careers," noted School of Business Dean Joyce Strawser. "We are pleased to see the continued recognition of Stillman’s prominence through these latest rankings.”
Nursing Now
The oldest college of nursing in New Jersey has a new accolade: placing 76th among 694 undergraduate nursing programs ranked throughout the United States. The ranking puts Seton Hall in the Top 15 percent of all schools (top 11 percent) nationally in the first-ever U.S. News ranking of undergraduate nursing programs.
Earlier this year, U.S News ranked Seton Hall’s Online Graduate Nursing Program at 27th in the nation, making it again the top-ranked online graduate nursing program in New Jersey and third among all Catholic universities in the country.
More Rankings
The U.S. News & World Report ranking is one of many that place Seton Hall among the best colleges in the nation. Seton Hall was again recognized most recently as one of the "Top Colleges in America" as well as one of the “Top Regional Colleges” by the Princeton Review; a "Best College for your Money" by Money magazine; and a Forbes "Top College in America."
In 2019 (last year the ranking was computed), with an employment score of 92.55 percent, Seton Hall ranked first among all private colleges and universities in New Jersey in a ranking that used data from IPEDS and the U.S. Department of Education's "College Scorecard." Seton Hall performed better in employment for its graduates than Princeton, Rutgers (New Brunswick, Newark and Camden), Monmouth University, Stevens Institute of Technology and Drew.
“These rankings reflect upon the successful outcomes our students experience year in and year out at Seton Hall,” said McCloud. “The academic world has begun these last few years to recognize what our alumni as well as employers in New York and New Jersey have long known: Seton Hall prepares our students exceptionally well for the world.”
‘A-Plus School for B Students’ and ‘Top Performer for Social Mobility’
In addition to the rise in ranking for National Universities, U.S. News again named Seton Hall to its "A-Plus Schools for B Students," and "Top Performers for Social Mobility."
U.S. News has characterized its list of "A Plus Schools for B Students," as the best national universities for students that are "trapped in the GPA of a B student" and whose "heart is set on a great college."
In “Top Performers for Social Mobility,” Seton Hall scored in the top third of all national universities for the graduation rate of its Pell eligible students.
This ranking comes on the heels of a more extensive Chronicle of Higher Education ranking which placed Seton Hall among the Top 25 of all private universities in the nation for the upward financial mobility of its students, using a "mobility rate," which is "a measure of the percentage of all students in a birth cohort at a particular college whose parents were in the bottom 20 percent for household income, and who reached the top 20 percent for individual earnings." The study was based on wage and income information derived from "millions of anonymous tax records and financial-aid records.”
Long the home of first-generation students, social and financial mobility along with academic excellence and student success forms a cornerstone of Seton Hall’s mission and its strategic plan, Harvest Our Treasures. This emphasis on service to society and affording opportunity is evident in the composition of Seton Hall’s most recent record-breaking freshman class (or any of the freshman classes from the last decade).
