Seton Hall Invites Community to Virtual Seton Hall Week Celebration
Friday, October 9, 2020
The University invites alumni, students, faculty, staff and the entire Seton Hall community to participate in Seton Hall Week from Oct. 23 to 30. Expanding to a full week from Seton Hall Weekend, the annual University tradition will continue to reconnect, engage and celebrate Seton Hall. As health and safety are of paramount importance, Seton Hall Week will be held online for the first time ever with more than 38 events, programs and presentations delivered remotely.
"While this year's event will look much different than it has in past years, we are providing a week-long experience full of engaging virtual offerings," said Jennifer O'Sheal, Seton Hall Week committee chair and director of University Events. "Although we can't celebrate together in-person, this will enable Setonians to engage with each other whether they live nearby or anywhere around the world."
While still offering traditional events in a virtual format like the Farinella 5k on Oct. 23, Seton Hall Week will also include a host of new activities. Attendees will have opportunities to connect with administration and faculty, learn more about Seton Hall's history and engage with different organizations available on campus.
Members of the community can test and refresh their Seton Hall knowledge with a game of trivia on Oct. 23. The University will also offer virtual tours including a Then-and-Now tour on Oct. 25 and tours of Space 154, the University's collaborative learning space and discovery lab, on Oct. 26 and 29.
The University community is invited to discover unique aspects of the virtual classroom experience by participating in one of the back-to-school sessions taught by faculty from various disciplines.
In addition, participants have a chance to join a live discussion with Shawna Cooper-Gibson, Ed.D., vice president of Student Services, during a virtual "Coffee and Conversation" session on Oct. 23. Majid Whitney, associate dean and director of the Educational Opportunity Fund programs, will also host a "Coffee and Conversation" session on Oct. 29.
This year, Seton Hall Week will include a "How I Got Here" series featuring parents of students. Speakers will share stories about how they started working in their respective fields and provide advice to students interested in careers across various industries. These sessions will be running in the evenings from Oct. 26 to 29.
Seton Hall Week will also feature a variety of virtual events hosted by organizations across campus. The theater program will livestream its performance of "Spoon River Revisited" on Oct. 24. Campus Ministry will stream a mass at 8 p.m. on Oct. 25. The Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) will offer a virtual informational meeting on Oct. 29.
For those interested in the competitive side of video games, Gaming Sector Club leadership and esports players will host an "Esports Meet and Greet" on Oct. 24 to answer questions about Seton Hall's gaming community. A "Tips and Tricks" video and highlight reel of Seton Hall's esports team will be made available on Oct. 23. Also, attendees can watch the Seton Hall team in action against Xavier in the Big East Rocket League Invitational, which will be streamed on Twitch on Oct. 28.
For alumni, Seton Hall Week will host a virtual beer garden on Oct. 24 and a pumpkin painting class on Oct. 26. Additionally, CHAMPS will bring former students together for a virtual reunion on Oct. 27.
