New Video Series Celebrates Our Guiding Values

LucasSeton Hall is debuting a six-part video series inspired by the guiding values at the heart of our strategic plan. Each episode features members of our community sharing personal stories of faith, love, integrity, service, resilience, courage and more lived expressions of the values that shape who we are.

In these videos, which we will be sharing monthly, you will hear echoes of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s enduring example: serving others with empathy, uplifting those in need and creating opportunities for all. Her life reminds us that our guiding values are not abstract ideas, but the commitment we live out each day.

The first video highlights the values of purpose and resilience – threads which are woven deeply into St. Elizabeth’s life. Seton Hall student Lucas Brasil reflects on how the loss of his mother to cancer in 2020 challenged his faith and sense of direction. “Seeing her go through what she had to go through, broke me at one point,” he shares. Yet through his grief, Lucas found the strength to persevere.

Like Elizabeth Ann Seton, who faced the unimaginable loss of her mother, baby sister, husband and two of her daughters, yet never wavered in her sense of purpose – Brasil chose to move forward with faith.

He stepped up at home, embraced new responsibilities and began to rebuild. He felt guided by a sense of resilience and a renewed commitment to his goal of attending college. Today, Brasil is a senior majoring in finance and accounting at Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business.

His story is just one example of how the University’s core values are lived each day across our community. They are more than words on a page – they are a blueprint for strength, purpose and progress, helping us move forward together.
