What is the Math Boot Camp?
- This program is an online intensive review of the mathematical concepts and skills necessary to be successful in your college level Math class.
- We use an online program called ALEKS PPL. ALEKS stands for Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces. PPL stands for Placement Preparation and Learning. It is an individualized, adaptive learning tool that is unlike any other online program available today.
- ALEKS PPL consists of three parts:
- An initial placement assessment - this will map out the information you know and don't know to create the next part.
- The Prep and Learning Module - an individualized, self-paced online review. After you work in the module for at least three hours you are ready to be reassessed to see what you have learned and mastered.
- Two additional assessments are available for you to complete after you have worked on the Prep and Learning Module.
Who is the Math Boot Camp for?
- Students who have taken at least two years of high school algebra.
- Students who wish to refresh and review their mathematical skills before they take the College Math Readiness Test and/or Calculus Readiness Test – Seton Hall’s math placement assessments.
- Students who wish to improve their mathematical skills before taking their college level math class.
- Students who would like an intensive review of algebra in preparation for taking College Algebra and/or Precalculus.
Who is the Math Boot Camp not for?
- This program is not intended for students who have struggled with math and need longer instructional time to master algebra skills.
- Students who have already taken their first math class at Seton Hall University.
When is the Math Boot Camp offered?
- The Math Boot Camp is being offered starting March 15 for the first-year students who are attending Seton Hall University. The program is supervised by the Center of Developmental Mathematics during the summer and winter sessions.
- Students may participate in the Math Boot Camp after their first year with the permission of the Director of Developmental Mathematics.
