Panel Discussion - 'The Ukraine War in its Fifth Year: Is an End in Sight?'

War in Ukraine

A panel discussion with Nathaniel Knight, Ph.D., and Maxim Matusevich, Ph.D., Department of History, and Andrew Misura, University Relations.

After almost five years of grinding struggle, the war in Ukraine can seem like an endless, bloody stalemate. Yet the past year has brought signs of movement. Ukrainian long-range drone strikes have led to a serious energy crisis in Russia bringing the reality of war home to Russian civilians, while Ukrainian successes on the battlefield have raised hopes of not only stopping, but reversing Russian advances. Despite these shifts, however, the political dynamics have changed little; peace remains elusive.

In their presentations, the panelists will address the current moment in the war in its political, military, technological and cultural dimensions, with particularly attention to the impact on the civilian population. Questions and discussion will follow the presentations.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is sponsored by the Slavic Club, Russian and East European Studies Program and the History Department.
