Seton Hall’s M.S.W. Introduces Synchronous Online Option for Regular Standing Students

A photo of students in the Master of Social Work programIn an exciting move to accommodate the evolving needs of aspiring social work professionals, the College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce that, starting this academic year, students pursuing the Regular Standing track of the Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program will have a choice to complete their first year through either on-campus or through synchronous, online coursework.

Traditionally, the Regular Standing track – built for students without a bachelor's degree in social work – required students to complete their first year of coursework on campus; however, recognizing the growing demand for flexible learning solutions, the program has revamped its framework to provide students with an online alternative.

"Our commitment to delivering exceptional social work education remains steadfast, but we also recognize the importance of flexibility," noted M.S.W. Program Director Christine Heer. "By introducing synchronous online instruction for the first year, we can provide students with the opportunity to balance their academic pursuits with other commitments."

Students who elect the synchronous, online option will virtually attend class at the same time as their colleagues on-campus. Upon completion of their first-year courses and fieldwork, Regular Standing students then move into their second year consisting of online (asynchronous) courses and additional on-site fieldwork.

Seton Hall’s M.S.W. program also offers an Advanced Standing track for students with an undergraduate degree in social work, in which students can go straight into the second year of the program.
