Welcome to Student Employment
The The Student Employment Office (SEO) supports the on-campus employment and off-campus community service needs of enrolled Seton Hall University students. Student employment is an opportunity for students to learn valuable life skills while earning money to assist in paying additional educational expenses. Students gain interpersonal, project management and critical thinking skills that they take with them into professional settings post graduation.
The SEO maintains online listings of Student Employment positions for Seton Hall University, including Federal Work Study (FWS), University Funded and Community Service opportunities. All Student Employment positions are part-time to best support the student’s academic success. Supervisors are within the Seton Hall community and understand the nature of the Student Employment program, and that employees are students first. Open positions can be found online.

Student Employment positions are open for 2026/27. It will show in the job description
if Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility is required. You can check your eligibility
for FWS funding on your Financial Aid Offer via the University Portal. You will only
see an FWS allotment if awarded. FWS eligibility is based on financial need using
your FAFSA SAI.

Types of Student Employment
Federal Work Study (FWS)
Federal Work Study funded positions are paid through a federal grant received by the University. To qualify, students must file a FAFSA to determine financial need and be within the University’s awarding threshold for the aid year. This can change throughout the year depending on the student’s aid eligibility. Some positions require FWS eligibility to apply.
University Work Study (UWS)
University Work Study positions are funded through the department hiring the student employee; these are not paid through a federal grant. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need for UWS employment.
Restricted/Grant Funded (URWS)
Restricted/Grant Funded positions are paid through a restricted or grant fund that was awarded to a department, program, or individual faculty/administrator at the University. The department hiring the student employee is responsible for working with the appropriate fund manager in the Grants Accounting Office to ensure the proper use and tracking of this fund.
Community Service
Community Service jobs are designed to engage students in improving the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to address issues such as: literacy training, social services, housing, neighborhood improvement, public safety, recreation, “at-risk” youth and community improvement. Seton Hall’s Community Service based positions often involve local organizations, non-profit, and school programs coordinated through the Division of Volunteer Efforts or other community-serving departments.
