About the Department
The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs offers programs of study in both political science and economics leading to the Bachelor
of Arts (B.A.) degree. Political science majors pursue a liberal arts curriculum that
focuses on United States politics, comparative politics, international relations,
political philosophy, and methodology. Economics majors pursue a liberal arts curriculum
that focuses on microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the impact of economic decision
making on all sectors of society.
Political Science and Economics majors at Seton Hall are able to complete internships with numerous public and private institutions for academic credit. The Department of Political Science & Public Affairs prepares students for graduate education and for careers in business and the private sector, law, politics and the government sector, public affairs and the nonprofit sector, and numerous other fields.
The Political Science major has four student learning objectives (SLOs) that summarize the knowledge, skills, and proficiencies that every student majoring in Political Science is expected to possess by the time they graduate.
SLO 1: Become acquainted with at least three of the four major subfields within the discipline: American politics; comparative politics; political theory; international relations.
SLO 2: Demonstrate advanced knowledge in, and understanding of, one of the four major subfields within the discipline: American politics, comparative politics, political theory, international relations.
SLO 3: Understand and apply the methods that political scientists use to answer questions about politics.
SLO 4: Conduct research in political science, using materials such as primary, secondary, and online sources or databases, in support of an original argument.
