About the Department

The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs offers a wide range of academic programs.  At the undergraduate level, the department offers a program of study in political science leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree.  Political science majors pursue a liberal arts curriculum that focuses on United States politics, comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, and methodology.  All political science majors write a senior thesis.  The department also offers minor programs in political science and in nonprofit studies.

Undergraduate political science majors at Seton Hall are able to complete internships with numerous public and private institutions for academic credit.  In partnership with The Washington Center, the department offers students an opportunity to complete an internship and coursework in Washington D.C.  The political science program prepares students for graduate education and for careers in politics, law, government service, journalism, the nonprofit sector, public affairs, the private sector, and numerous other fields.

At the graduate level, the department offers a Masters in Public Administration (MPA).  The MPA program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).  Students in the MPA program choose one of three concentrations: Nonprofit Organization Management, Public Service, or Healthcare Policy and Management.  The MPA program in Nonprofit Organization Management is ranked #27 in the country by U.S. News and World Report. The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs has several endowed scholarships available to MPA students, as well as a graduate assistant program.

The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs also offers a graduate certificate program in Nonprofit Management.  Students who complete the certificate program can apply all earned credits toward the master's degree if they are accepted into the degree program.
