Policy on the Use of University Chapels

Purpose

Seton Hall University is a major Catholic university.  The chapels of the University, attentive to its core identity, have been established and are to be used solely for Catholic worship and/or for other activities and events as may be in accord with the duly promulgated laws and norms of the Roman Catholic Church.  The University may, in its discretion, offer alternative spaces for worship and reflection to individuals of other faiths.

Scope

This is a University-wide policy.

Policy

All Seton Hall University chapels are to be used exclusively for those rites, ceremonies, and other practices that are officially sanctioned and/or lawfully permitted by the Roman Catholic Church. Requests for use of any University chapel are subject to the approval of the University in its sole discretion.

  • Interprofessional Health Sciences Campus Chaplain (IHS campus)
  • School of Law Chaplain (School of Law campus)

Initially adopted and approved by Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., President, upon the recommendation of the Executive Cabinet on March 5, 2025.
