Get Involved, Stay Active and Show Your Pirate Pride
Tuesday, September 1, 2026
As the new academic year gets underway, Seton Hall students have plenty of opportunities
to stay active, get involved and connect with the Pirate community through Athletics
and Recreation. Whether exercising in the Rec Center, competing in a club sport, cheering
on the Pirates, joining a spirit group, or gaining hands-on experience in sports media,
students can make Athletics and Recreation part of their Seton Hall experience year-round.
New Pirates Get a Lesson in Seton Hall Spirit
Seton Hall’s newest Pirates were welcomed to the world of Seton Hall basketball during
Spirit 101 as part of New Student Welcome Weekend. The Seton Hall Pep Band, Cheerleaders,
Sapphires and Blue Beard Army taught students everything they need to know about being
a Seton Hall Pirate, including the Fight Song and Alma Mater, along with important
basketball traditions to make sure they are ready from tip-off to the final buzzer.
Spirit 101 offered new students an introduction to traditions that help bring the Seton Hall community together and set the stage for another year of Pirate Athletics.
Students can follow @bluebeardarmy on Instagram and get involved by joining the student organization.
Stay Fit at the Rec Center
The Richie Regan Recreation & Athletics Center is the hub for fitness and wellness on campus. Whether you are looking to hit the
gym or play pickleball, the Rec Center has convenient hours for all students:
- Rec Center Hours: Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday: 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday-Sunday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Follow @setonhall_rec on Instagram for updates on all things recreation, including club sports, intramurals and fitness programs.
Get in the Game with Intramurals and Club Sports
If you are looking for some friendly competition, Seton Hall’s intramural sports are the perfect way to stay active and have fun. Intramural flag football is now open for sign-ups, and you can register your team with 7-12 members for just
$20.
For those interested in volleyball, the intramural volleyball league is also accepting sign-ups, providing another fantastic opportunity to play.
Club teams practice regularly and compete against other colleges in the region, providing students with opportunities to continue playing a sport they love or try something new.
Club sport tryouts scheduled for the opening weeks of the semester include:
- Club Soccer: September 1 and 3
- Club Rugby: September 8
- Club Volleyball: September 22 and 26
- Club Hockey: September 23 and 24
- Club Basketball: September 30 and October 3
Students can follow @setonhall_rec on Instagram for updates on intramural and club sports and other Recreation opportunities throughout the semester.
Find Your Place in Pirate Athletics
Students do not have to be varsity athletes to play a role in the Seton Hall game-day
experience. Seton Hall’s spirit groups include cheerleading, the Sapphires dance team, Pep Band, mascot and Flagman, each helping bring Pirate Pride to games and events
throughout the year. Students should follow each spirit squad on Instagram for information
on tryouts:
- Cheerleading: @setonhallcheer
- Sapphires Dance Team: @shusapphires
- Pep Band: @shu_pepband
For students interested in sports media, the Pirate Sports Network (PSN) offers another way to get involved. PSN broadcasts and produces creative coverage of Seton Hall teams, with students operating cameras, running replays, producing graphics and shooting and editing features. For the second consecutive year, PSN broadcasts will air on ESPN+, giving students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in live sports production.
Students interested in getting involved can visit the Athletics table during the Involvement Fair on the University Green on September 9.
Cheer on the Pirates This Fall
Pirate Athletics are already underway for the fall semester, giving students plenty
of opportunities to gather with friends and support Seton Hall teams on campus. All
non-basketball home athletic events are free for Seton Hall students, making it easy
to experience the energy of Pirate game days throughout the season.
- Men’s and Women’s Soccer at Owen T. Carroll Field.
- Women’s Volleyball at Walsh Gym.
- Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
Students can view the full Seton Hall Athletics schedule to find upcoming home games and opportunities to cheer on the Pirates throughout the fall.
Basketball Season Is Around the Corner
With fall sports underway, students can also start preparing for the return of Seton
Hall University basketball.
The men’s basketball team enters the new season after winning 21 games and finishing fourth in the BIG EAST last year under head coach Shaheen Holloway ‘00. Student season tickets are now available for all 15 men’s basketball games at Prudential Center for less than $10 per game.
Student season-ticket holders receive access to the student section next to the visiting team bench, entry into a lottery for a season-long Prudential Center parking pass and priority access to tickets for games played at Walsh Gymnasium and the BIG EAST Tournament in March. Athletics also provides free round-trip bus transportation from campus to men’s basketball games at Prudential Center.
Women’s basketball also returns after a 19-win season and third-place BIG EAST finish under the leadership of head coach Anthony Bozzella ‘89. The Pirates have participated in national postseason competitions in each of the last five seasons and ten of the last twelve. All women’s basketball games at Walsh Gymnasium are free for Seton Hall students, who can show their University ID at the Recreation Center front desk on game day to receive a ticket.
Stay Connected
Students can stay up to date with Seton Hall teams and Athletics events by following
@shuathletics on Instagram. The Seton Hall Pirates Athletics mobile app also allows students to follow their favorite teams and manage men’s basketball tickets
directly from their smartphones.
Whether competing in club sports, working behind the scenes with Pirate Sports Network, or filling the stands to support Seton Hall student-athletes, Athletics and Recreation offer countless ways to stay active, build connections and show Pirate Pride throughout the academic year.
