"Being a part of the Buccino Leadership Program has been an amazing experience and has completely changed my life."
A native of Syracuse, New York, Madelyn Woodson is a Journalism major in the College of Communication and the Arts at Seton Hall University. She is a member of the inaugural Buccino Leadership Institute cohort, a selective group of 83 freshman from six colleges within the university. "Being a part of the Buccino Leadership Program has been an amazing experience and has completely changed my life. I have found myself to be much more outgoing and have begun to be the leader in every situation that I am faced with. I know this program will make my future just that much brighter with amazing opportunities because of the skills I have gained and the connections I have made."
Madelyn has four years of experience from her high school television studio where she served as an on-air personality and an associate producer. She also was part of a team that published a magazine called InnerView. Her involvement in these organizations was driven by her passion for writing and working in television, both on the air and behind the scenes. In addition to her involvement in the literary and visual arts, Madelyn played tennis and golf in high school.
Madelyn decided to attend Seton Hall because of its proximity to New York City and the university’s emphasis on internships. "At Seton Hall I would be pushed to move toward a career, where at other colleges I would just be working toward a degree."
Having the ability to take control of any situation is why Madelyn is a part of the Buccino Institute Leadership Program. She believes that she has worked hard to become the leader that she is today and hopes that the program will push her that extra mile to make her "the absolute best she can be." With the assistance and experience from this program, Madelyn hopes to develop relations in the broadcast and journalism fields to further her career.
Currently, Madelyn is a main anchor of Pirate Television here at Seton Hall. She plans to participate in as many internships related to her field as possible, and she has her eye on an internship at NBC studios. Her future plans include acquiring and creating many connections throughout college so she will be able to start working as a journalist right away.
