“Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present” by Marcus Aurelius
Exchanging the small town of Colby, Kansas for the East Coast, Drew Starbuck decided to attend the School of Diplomacy at Seton Hall University. Drew is a Diplomacy major and was competitively selected into the Buccino Leadership Institute and is a member of the Institute's Diplomacy cohort.
In his high school career, he held many leadership positions within his high school career such as President of the National Honor Society, treasurer for Student Council, state Forensics semifinalist, and was the second highest-ranked tennis player in the 3-2-1A classification in the state of Kansas going into his senior tennis season. With both of these scholarly and athletic experiences, Drew was able to strengthen his leadership skills in preparation for his college career and his time within the Buccino Leadership Institute.
During his time at Seton Hall, he has tried to involve himself in lots of different experiences on campus to both better himself and round out his skill set. These activities range from improving his public speaking as an analyst for the Global Current, improving his writing ability as a staff writer for the Diplomatic Envoy, volunteering through organizations like the Student Activities Board (SAB) and the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE). He feels that time at college presents a great opportunity for him to improve himself and engage in lots of different activities to gain experience in many different opportunities. This also serves the purpose of allowing him to determine the best possible career path within his field.
Drew had the option of staying closer to home and attending college in-state or potentially attend the United States Naval Academy but chose to attend Seton Hall because of its great program, location, and opportunities for career development through the School of Diplomacy and the Buccino Leadership Institute. Both the leadership program and his school meet a diverse selection of people, the ability to network and gain valuable real-life leadership experience. It is through these opportunities that Drew hopes to diversify his abilities and gain an ability to communicate, work, and lead in situations on issues ranging across the globe.
Drew is considering several different options to pursue for his career post-graduation. He would like to work in government to serve his country. The options that he is interested in include working for the FBI, serving as a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department, or working as a government analyst. Despite these lofty goals, Drew is dedicated to ensuring he makes the most of his time at Seton Hall in dedicating himself to his studies and various activities across campus.
