"Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you're proud to live" – Anne Sweeney

Photo of student Abigail WingoHailing from Portland, Oregon, Abigail has traveled a long way to find herself on the East Coast as a member of the Buccino Leadership Honors Institute. Coming from a sport-loving family, Abigail grew up on the softball field, and found herself in South Orange on a softball scholarship. Though not originally at Seton Hall for the Buccino Leadership Institute, Abigail quickly found a family in the Institute and is grateful to be a part of such an esteemed program. "This program has already taught me so much about what it means to be a leader. I am looking forward to continuing to learn how to not only better lead others, but also learn how to better lead myself."

Abigail has already had plenty of leadership experiences before joining the Pirate family and cannot wait to continue honing her leadership skills while at Seton Hall. As a member of the Alumni Initiative and Co-President of the Women’s Leadership Initiative, Abigail has taken advantage of the many leadership opportunities provided by the Institute. These student-led initiatives have allowed her to directly apply all the leadership skills she has learned in the classroom into real life, while also introducing her to some amazing friends, faculty, and mentors. "The Women's Leadership and Alumni Initiatives have been such a blessing to be a part of. There are not many other places I can think of that allow students to get so involved and better themselves and their community around them."

Outside of the classroom and the softball field, you will likely find Abigail hiking, playing with her dog, or doing something active. From a young age, her passion for competing and being part of a team was a constant in her life. As a result, the sports management major drew her in and would allow her to continue her lifelong love of sports. "I have been involved in sports for as long as I can remember. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in Sports Management from a young age, but only recently began narrowing down my interests into community outreach and event operations. My dream is to work for a professional team creating events or programs to not only engage the fans but give back to the community as well." Seton Hall's prestigious Sports Management department and proximity to New York City for internships was a large factor in Abigail's decision to come to South Orange, as well as the opportunity to become the best version of herself both academically and athletically.
