Speaker Series

The Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute Speaker Series will partner the Institute with Seton Hall's colleges to bring prominent Latino guests as well as speakers who are engaged in issues pertaining to the lives of American Latinos to the University. Topics can vary, but must demonstrate an appreciation of the Latino culture.

Juan Felipe Herrera:
The 2015 U.S. Poet Laureate visits Seton Hall
Monday, April 11, 2016 at 6 p.m.
Location: Jubilee Hall Auditorium
Juan Felipe Herrera was appointed the nation's first Mexican-American Poet Laureate in 2015, having served as California's poet laureate from 2012 to 2014. Mr. Herrera is the first Latino to receive this distinction and was recently given a second term as the 2016 U.S. Poet Laureate. Mr. Herrera read and discussed some of his unique work to the students at Seton Hall University. Co-Sponsors for this event included: Poetry in the Round, the English Department, Latin American and Latino/Latina Studies, and the School of Diplomacy.

Spring 2015 Speaker

Cardinal Sean Partick O'Malley:
The Hispanic presence in the Church and Pope Francis
April 22, 2015 at 6 p.m.
Location: Jubilee Hall Auditorium
Cardinal O'Malley serves as the Archbishop of Boston, and was elevated to the O'Malley in 2006. O'Malley is a member of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, commonly known as the Capuchins. On April 13, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Cardinal cardinalate to an advisory board of eight cardinals to help the Pope govern the Catholic Church and reform its central administration.
