Communication Honors Alumni Mentor Program
Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Seton Hall University's Communication Honors Alumni Mentor Program (CHAMP) welcomed
its 2018 mentors and mentees in January with the largest group to date. Fifty-seven
students and alumni kicked of the 8th year of this highly successful program. CHAMP
is a collaboration among The Career Center, the College of Communication and the Arts and Alumni Relations.
"CHAMP was designed to bring together successful alumni with current communication
students to share tips and practical advice on navigating the many career opportunities
a degree from Seton Hall can offer," says Paul Ward '86.
The response from both students and the mentors has been overwhelming. While most
of the original mentors have continued with the program, new alumni join each year.
The program runs from January to May, however most of the mentor relationships continue
long afterward.
"My experience with CHAMP was so special. I was paired with a journalist from the
New York Daily News. I cannot thank him enough for all of the advice and suggestions that he gave me
regarding everything from my internship search to how to conduct the best interview
possible. I even got to visit the [offices of the] Daily News and sit in on an editorial
meeting to plan the next day's paper!"

"My mentor and I met several times throughout the semester. He introduced me to his
coworkers, coached me with interview skills, and helped me build my resume and LinkedIn
profile. Since my time in CHAMP, I have had opportunities with the Brooklyn Nets,
the New York Daily News, The Big East Conference, Seton Hall Athletics, and Seton Hall Public Relations and
Marketing.."

Students selected for the program this year have been paired with mentors from organizations including iHeartMedia, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, American Greetings, Coyne PR, New York Daily News, Stern Strategy Group, SHU Public Relations, Univision Communications, Johnson & Johnson, Bloomberg TV, ESPN, Turner Broadcasting, Pfizer, Avon, Viacom, NJ Chamber of Commerce, RB, Rock Shrimp Productions, as well as independent consultants with a history of accomplishments in several areas of communication.
