Ken Jones will kick off the StillmanSpeaks lecture series on September 22 with a talk on the online gig economy.

This fall, the Stillman School of Business is launching StillmanSpeaks, a new faculty lecture series. Designed to highlight the academic and industry expertise of Stillman’s faculty, the series will feature discussions on timely and thought-provoking topics led by professors from the school’s nationally acclaimed M.B.A. program.

From the rise of the gig economy to the impact of artificial intelligence on finance, the series aims to bring real-world insights into pressing issues facing today’s business leaders. The events are free to attend and offered in-person and online.

“StillmanSpeaks provides a platform for our faculty to share their expertise on the critical issues shaping today’s business environment,” said Wesley Pech, Ph.D., associate dean of academics and partnerships in the Stillman School of Business. “Through a combination of academic research and industry experience, our speakers aim to engage students, alumni and prospective students alike with timely, practical insights.”

The inaugural event will take place on September 22, featuring Kenneth Jones, M.B.A., instructor of computing and decision sciences. His in-person session, “Unpacking the Online Tutoring and Gig Economy, will explore technology-driven strategies for building hybrid careers and multiple income streams. Jones will highlight platforms such as Wyzant, Upwork and Substack while discussing how individuals can align professional pursuits with personal interests — such as creative or artistic passions — to achieve both independence and fulfillment. On October 2, Assistant Professor of Management Nicolas Dahan, Ph.D. will deliver an online presentation, “What All Corporate Executives Should Know About Business-Government Relations. Dahan will examine how corporations engage with political systems through traditional and modern forms of corporate political activity, including lobbying, coalition-building and digital advocacy. The session will also address the legal landscape and reputational considerations that managers must navigate in an increasingly complex public environment. Register for the event here.

Following the opening talks, StillmanSpeaks will continue with a diverse range of topics led by faculty from across the business school:

All talks will be from 6-7 p.m. on their respective dates, with all in-person events taking place in Bethany Hall, Room 118, on Seton Hall’s South Orange campus.

“StillmanSpeaks is part of the School’s broader effort to connect academic learning with real-world business challenges,” added Pech. “Each presentation is structured to provide meaningful takeaways and encourage dialogue on the evolving forces that shape industries and careers.”
