When announcing Alexis Lewis' addition to the Seton Hall Women's basketball team, Head Coach Anthony Bozella said that, "Lexi is a gifted scorer with deep shooting range as well as an explosive rebounder and defender. We have no doubts that her skill-set will translate to great success in the BIG EAST as she concludes what has already been a tremendous career." Alexis has succeeded both on and off the court as she has worked towards not only athletic success but also balancing working towards her Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) and also at internships where she has worked hundreds of hours for community service and public policy groups.
After transferring to Seton Hall from Iona College to play on the Women's Basketball team in 2018, Alexis has earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Social Work. She has maintained a 3.7 GPA, earned Dean's List and is now working towards her M.S.W. here at Seton Hall.
On top of her busy schedule as a student-athlete, Alexis has found the time for multiple internships. Most recently, Alexis has interned with the Shani Baraka Women's Resource Center where she facilitates psychoeducational groups and provide mental health counseling to clients of the center. While interning with the Bronx Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team for 10-12 hours a week she assisted staff on their home visits to clients with severe and mild mental health disabilities. Alexis also interned with Newark Community Solutions where she worked with the Restorative Justice program in Newark Municipal where she helped with intake forms, scheduled community service, and facilitated social service groups.
Alexis also volunteers as a personal trainer and mentor for youth basketball players at least once a week and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where she participates in meetings focused on athletic department volunteer service activities as well as various campus affairs. She has also participated in Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) at which she learned about policy and legislative practices and bill rules and regulations within social work practice and presented at the Paul Shane Policy Symposium on the water crisis in Flint, MI.
In a recent interview with Pirates Sports Network, Alexa explained her outlook on life showing why she is an example of What Great Minds Can Do: "I am a competitor. I hate to lose. I do my best to keep a smile on and be someone that my teammates or anyone can count on if they need me."
