Duo Mobile Ending Support for iOS 17
Monday, October 5, 2026
Beginning January 21, 2027, Duo Mobile will no longer support iPhones running iOS 17 or older. Members of the Seton Hall
community who use an iPhone for Duo authentication should check their operating system
and update to iOS 18 or newer if their device supports it.
Duo Mobile will continue to function on iOS 17 after support ends, including Duo Push notifications and passcodes. However, these devices will no longer receive Duo Mobile security updates, fixes or improvements, and newer versions of the app will not be available for download. Updating to a supported version of iOS helps keep Duo Mobile current with the latest security protections.
Anyone whose iPhone cannot be upgraded to iOS 18 or newer should consider moving Duo Mobile to a supported device before January 21, 2027, to continue receiving security updates and future app versions.
Check Your iPhone Operating System
To check for and install an available iOS update:
- Open Settings.
- Select General.
- Select Software Update.
- Follow the prompts to install an available update.
Why Duo Matters to Account Security
Keeping both Duo Mobile and the device it runs on up to date is an important part of protecting your University account. Operating system and application updates address security vulnerabilities and ensure Duo Mobile continues to receive current fixes and protections. Duo provides an additional layer of security by requiring another form of verification in addition to a password. If a password is compromised, this second step can help prevent unauthorized access to Seton Hall applications.
That protection depends on responding carefully to authentication requests. Only approve a Duo request when you initiated the sign-in. An unexpected push notification or phone call may indicate that someone has obtained your password and is attempting to access your account. Denying the request prevents Duo from providing the verification needed to complete the sign-in.
The same practices can help protect personal accounts. Enable multi-factor authentication whenever it is available, particularly for email, financial and social media accounts or other services containing sensitive information. Use a unique password for each account so that a compromised password cannot easily be used to access other services.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a good opportunity to review the security of important accounts. A few proactive steps now can help protect your information and ensure the tools you rely on for authentication remain secure and up to date.
