Earning Badges

• What is a digital badge, and how is it different from a certificate? »

  A digital badge is a verified, shareable credential that represents a specific skill, achievement, or experience. Unlike certificates, badges include embedded metadata with details about the issuing organization, criteria, and date earned.

• Who is eligible to earn badges at Seton Hall? »

  Students, faculty, staff, and campus partners can earn badges by completing qualifying workshops, programs, training sessions or service activities.

• How do I log in to see the badges I’ve earned? »

  You can access your badge account anytime by visiting tltc.shu.edu/badges. From there, you can view your earned badges, track your progress, and download or share badges on LinkedIn, resumes, and e-portfolios.

• Can I earn more than one badge? »

  Yes! You can earn multiple badges across different areas, including academics, leadership, technology, and service.

• How long does it take to earn a badge? »

  It depends on the badge. Some can be completed in a single workshop, while others require participation in multiple sessions, activities, or a capstone project.

Sharing and Using Badges 

• How do I access a badge I’ve earned? »

  Log in to your badge account to view and manage all the badges you’ve earned.

• Can I share my badge on LinkedIn or my resume? »

  Yes! Badges are designed to be shared. You can display them on your LinkedIn profile, digital portfolio, or resume to showcase your skills.

• How do I add a badge to my LinkedIn profile? »

  Follow the instructions in our Knowledge Base article to add your badge to the “Licenses & Certifications” section of your LinkedIn profile.

• Will my badge expire? »

  Most badges do not expire. If a badge has an expiration or renewal requirement, that information will be included in the badge details.

• Where else can I display my digital badge? »

  You can add badges to email signatures, e-portfolios, personal websites, digital resumes, or other social media to enhance your professional visibility.

For Badge Creators

• How can I request to create a new badge? »

  Faculty, staff, and sponsors of approved student organizations can submit a badge request by logging into the Service Desk page and selecting Badging from the Request Types menu. Click the button that appears to bring up the Badge Request Form.

• What information is needed to propose a badge? »

  You'll need to include the badge title, purpose, criteria for earning it, any assessment or deliverables involved on the Badge Request Form found on the Service Desk homepage under the Request Types menu.

• Can student organizations create badges? »

  Yes—recognized student organizations can create badges with the support of a faculty or staff advisor.

• How do I award my badges? »

  Once you have evaluated who should earn a badge you created, create a list of their SHU shortnames and/or ID numbers in a Word or Excel document, then email it to Tom McGee at [email protected]. Recipients will receive an email from TLTC [email protected] when the badge has been loaded into their account.
