Julie O'Connell, M.A.

Instructor
Department of English

I have been teaching composition and literature courses for the Department of English at Seton Hall University since 2008. A doctoral candidate at Drew University, I am currently writing my dissertation. I hold a master's degree from Brown University and a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University. For 10 years, I served as the Director of the Felician College Writing Lab where I had the opportunity to initiate and oversee an interdisciplinary college writing center that utilized a Writing Across the Curriculum philosophy. At Felician, I co-authored a corporate ESL curriculum which I taught at the Federal Reserve Bank in East Rutherford, NJ. I also developed and taught a ten week Praxis II preparation course for Teacher Education students.

I have taught courses in developmental writing, rhetoric and composition, literature, reading, ESL, and Business Communications. I have worked as a Learning Specialist at a large public university; I have also been a corporate trainer and taught high school English. I have given numerous presentations on learning styles, study strategies, time management, test preparation, test taking, note taking, and reading skills for undergraduate students. I have a special interest in working with students who have learning disabilities and other kinds of academic challenges.
