Irish Heritage Week

Join the Seton Hall community in celebrating the 2nd annual Irish Heritage Week, beginning on Saturday, March 17th, 2018, with a St. Patrick's Day Mass on campus, immediately followed by a flag-raising ceremony and our 6th annual march in the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade. Additional events will take place throughout the week. Please see below for details of these events.

Irish Heritage Week is sponsored by the Pirates of Irish Persuasion & Extraction (PIPE) Alumni and Student Clubs, the College of Communication and the Arts, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Catholic Studies, the New Jersey Catholic Historical Commission, Campus Ministry, and the Department of Public Relations and Marketing.

Our celebration of Irish Heritage will continue into April, with the 8th annual Irish Mass and Dinner on campus on Friday, April 20th, 2018. At this event, sponsored by the Pirates of Irish Persuasion & Extraction (PIPE) Alumni Club, we will recognize this year's Irish Education 100 recipients.

9:30 a.m. - Mass
St. Patrick's Day Mass in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, Seton Hall University
Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Brian Needles, Director of Seton Hall Campus Ministry, a recipient of the Irish Education 100 award in 2017; Sara McCabe ’02 will be the cantor, singing Irish hymns.

10:15 a.m. - Flag Raising
University Center, Seton Hall University
Ceremony will include a special Irish blessing for Setonians and friends, as well as the singing of the Irish and American national anthems.

*Pre-registration is not required for the Mass and Flag-Raising ceremony. All are welcome.

10:45 a.m. - Check-In/Bus Departure from Seton Hall to New York City
Athletic Center, Seton Hall University

1 p.m. - Registrants not taking the bus from Seton Hall will meet at parade step-off point (area of West 46th Street)

3 p.m. - Irish Studies Discussion Series Lecture and Q&A
Theatre-in-the-Round, University Center
"Assimilation and Identity in the Irish Immigrant Experience," presented by Fr. Augustine Curley, O.S.B., who is a Seton Hall University alumnus and the Prior, Abbey Librarian, and Archivist of Newark Abbey. Having earned his Ph.D. at Boston College, Fr. Augustine, an adjunct professor of theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, is a noteworthy scholar of the Irish immigrant experience and of the history of Catholicism in New Jersey. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Theatre-in-the-Round, University Center
Come and enjoy this celebration of Irish cultural heritage, orchestrated by Dr. James McGlone and presented by the talented performers of the Celtic Theatre Company. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
