Prestigious Faculty Fellowships

Interested in accelerating your faculty career through prestigious external recognitions? You’re in the right place. The Prestigious Faculty Fellowship (PFF) initiative supports applications for high-level fellowships, Fulbright awards, and membership in disciplinary honor societies. Explore our program components and related areas below.

Portfolio Awards

One of the primary activities of the PFF initiative involves a focus on seven prestigious honorific competitions. In some cases, these opportunities require an institutional nomination.

Ad Hoc Awards

There are hundreds of prestigious awards and recognitions for faculty members. If you’re interested in pursuing one that’s not already on our portfolio list, please reach out to our staff to discuss next steps.

We will assess your competitiveness for the award, review the timeline, and, if it’s feasible, work with you on the application.

Note that all external award applications are required to negotiate the Office of Grant Research Service’s Cayuse system to facilitate compliance rules and institutional approvals. We can facilitate your contact with that office and/or other campus units whose involvement may be required. We will also work with you on securing letters of reference and, when needed, collaborate with the administration on an official nomination letter.

Note that any award that involves faculty leave outside of the ordinary sabbatical calendar must be approved by your dean before application submission.

Faculty Academy for External Recognitions and Awards (FAERA)

Each school year, the Office of the Provost sponsors an academy for 10-12 faculty members. FAERA participants meet virtually approximately every three weeks to discuss, workshop, and collaborate on elements of competitive academic honorifics. Upon submission of a full application for a distinguished award or recognition, participants will receive a stipend. Note that participants must be nominated by their dean to be considered for the academy.

FAQs

 What is expected of academy participants?

FAERA participants meet virtually in a two-hour workshop, with ten meetings scheduled across the school year. Meetings feature assigned readings, interactive discussions, and occasional guest speakers. Each participant also selects a prestigious external recognition or award, in consultation with the PFF directors, and collaborates with FAERA peers to create a complete application for it. Upon submission of the full application, members receive a stipend from the Provost’s Office to recognize their efforts in the academy.

 What do the nominations require?

If you are interested in being a member of the next FAERA class, your dean must nominate you at the beginning of the fall semester. A committee made up of PFF and OGRS staff members selects a variety of faculty from each year’s nomination pool; alternates may be invited to join the class in some circumstances.

To seek a nomination, reach out to your dean’s office with the following information:

  1. An updated CV;

  2. A one-page document summarizing your grants/fellowships/awards experience as well as your rationale for requesting a nomination to the academy.

If you have any questions about the FAERA initiative, please contact us here.
