Seton Hall Celebrates National Graduate Student Appreciation Week

Seton Hall University is hosting events centered around the celebration of our graduate students as part of the National Graduate Student Appreciation Week. The event and activities are a great chance to network and socialize with your graduate student peers and to let you know how important you are to our community. This year’s inaugural appreciation week takes place from April 2 through April 5, 2024. 

The Office of Graduate Affairs, in collaboration with Student Services, is offering our graduates a variety of elevated events centered around professional development, financial literacy, and health and mental awareness with time to socialize amongst your peers. If you are not on campus regularly, this would be a great opportunity to visit.

Students may register and participate in any of the week-long activities - feel free to attend as many as you like!

Tuesday, April 2 – Professional Development

National Graduate Student Appreciation week kicks-off at Seton Hall with a professional development theme focused on offering some key tips and tools to assist our graduate students with their goal setting and career planning. 

Welcome Table  

South Orange campus: 2 to 5 p.m. in the University Center

IHS campus: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Winter Garden 

Greetings and giveaways – stop by at the Welcome Table on the Green (or the University Center due to inclement weather) or at the IHS campus at the table in the winter garden. Say hello, learn about the week’s events and receive a gift/giveaway in celebration of the week!   

Professional Headshots 

South Orange campus:  4 to 6 p.m. in Bethany Room A 
IHS campus:  11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 1300 

Grab your professional clothes and get ready to impress future job recruiters with an opportunity to capture new headshots for your LinkedIn profile. Professional portraits are free for all graduate students. Registration is required, only 90 slots are available for each location - first come, first serve. Register on the event form below. 

Professional Development Workshop 

Bethany A from 6 to 8 p.m.  

Learn from working professionals on how to leverage your own professional brand. Seton Hall’s Career Center will discuss the best way to develop your LinkedIn profile to yield better results in job interviews. Meet Seton Hall alumnus, Andrew Brereton, a professional development coach, where he will provide tips on life design and student success. Light refreshments will be provided. Wednesday, April 3 – Community Building

Socialize and network with your graduate student peers and representatives from the Graduate Affairs Team, your schools/colleges and the administrative teams.

Graduate Student Dinner Reception 

Bethany A from 4 to 7 p.m. 

Join the Seton Hall graduate community for an evening dinner social. Current students are encouraged to connect with other graduate students they normally do not have the chance to speak with. Engage with various administrative offices such as the Office of Graduate Affairs and representative from Seton Hall’s schools and colleges. Dessert Bar 

Bethany A from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 

If you can’t make the dinner reception, stop by for an evening dessert bar! This late-night snack is open to graduate students, whether or not you attended the dinner reception. Registration is required, register on the event form below.

Thursday, April 4 – Financial Literacy 

With the changing times and the many challenges that we are all faced with, this is a great opportunity to gain a stronger handle on financial literacy and planning. 

Money Management and Financial Literacy Workshop 

Bethany A from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Join Stillman School of Business Alumnus, David Marconi (B.S. Business Administration ’11 and M.S. Professional Accounting ’16), who will discuss the importance of saving early and letting the benefits of compounding interest work for you. The Office of Financial Aid and the Bursar's Office will also be available to answer any questions you may have in regard to graduate degree financing options. Light refreshments will be provided. Friday, April 5 - Health/Life Balance 

Balance in all we do, especially as graduate students, is important to keep in mind. Whether you are a student, working professional, parent or guardian, or just have a busy life, it’s crucial to take moments for yourself and unwind.  

School/Life Balance Awareness Fair 

IHS Campus Winter Garden from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Meet with representatives from Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Disability Support Services and gain insights on how to best manage your mental and physical health and other support services available to you at Seton Hall. Refreshments will be provided.  

Ease-Your-Mind Massages 

IHS Campus Winter Garden from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Mini chair massages will be available to attendees to destress from their daily lives and get a mental and physical pick-me-up. Registration is required - first come, first serve. Register on the event form below.

All Week - Our Grads Care 

Graduate Student Food Donation Drive 

Mission and servant leadership are two qualities of the Seton Hall community. And what better way to show “our Graduate students care” than to host a non-perishable food collection at all our events this week. When you join us at activities all week long, look for the non-perishable food collection boxes to donate. In partnership with the Division of Volunteering Efforts (DOVE), all items collected will be donated to local food banks/pantries.
