Undefeated Pirates Head into BIG EAST Spring Tournament
The spring 2022 League of Legends and Rocket League BIG EAST Championship are set to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. ET with nine team’s vying for championship glory.
After fifteen weeks of Rocket League competition and all 72 league games completed, the Pirates (13-2, 8-0 BIG EAST) earned the top seed in the tournament and an opening round bye, as the Pirates won 24 out of a possible 26 matches in the best-of-three round robin style of play. The full Rocket League regular season slate consisted of eight conference matches, along with out of conference competition, with each BIG EAST team playing each other once. After fifteen weeks of competition and all 72 league games completed, the nine seeds were solidified.
The Pirates will take on the winner of the play-in game between No. 8 St. John’s (5-10, 2-6 BE) and No. 9 Georgetown (3-12, 1-7 BE), while Marquette will face No. 7 Butler (8-7. 2-6 BE) in the opening round. The BIG EAST Championship consists of a double-elimination bracket, with the grand final slated for Sunday at 3:15 p.m. All games will be streamed between three Twitch channels, including twitch.tv/EGFrocketleague, twitch.tv/officialEGF and twitch.tv/officialEGF2. Undefeated Pirates Compete in League of Legends
The spring 2022 League of Legends BIG EAST Championship is set to begin Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, with a quartet of team’s vying for a spot in Sunday’s Championship match. The full spring slate consisted of a best-of-three round robin, with each team playing each other team once. After seven weeks and 28 completed regular-season matches, the top-four positions in the league standings were solidified on March 19.
In the first match of the day, Butler looked to keep its season alive against Seton Hall. The Bulldogs got off on the right foot with an opening round victory. However, the Pirates quickly regrouped with a second-round triumph, before ultimately winning the contest 2-1. With the win UConn locked up the No. 3-seed in the BIG EAST Championship, due to tiebreakers.
In the final match of the day, undefeated Seton Hall and previously undefeated DePaul
faced off with the winner claiming the top-seed in the BIG EAST Championship. The
Pirates dominated from start to finish with a 48:17 kills to death ratio to wrap up
the spring regular season a perfect 7-0.
In regular season competition, Seton Hall’s ivernedthisrank led all gamers with 122 kills in seven games, while DePaul’s kingamazin ranked second with 114. As a team, DePaul led the league with a 6.2 kills and assists over death ratio, while Seton Hall finished closely behind with a 5.6.
In Saturday’s first semifinal game, No. 1 seed Seton Hall challenges No. 4 seed St. John’s at 3 p.m. The contest will be available to steam on twitch.tv/BIGEASTesports.
