SHUGSlympics 2023: Gamers Unite for Children's Health
Tuesday, November 7, 2023
On Saturday, November 4, the Seton Hall University Gaming Sector Club hosted its ninth annual charity event to support Extra Life, a renowned fundraising program affiliated with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. In a 25-hour gaming marathon, aptly named SHUGSlympics, the gaming community united to raise over $3,400 in funding for the medical care of children facing serious illnesses.
This year’s SHUGSlympics attracted over 200 in-person and virtual participants, who dedicated a cumulative total of 1,239 hours in direct support of the cause. The first half of the event offered 37 diverse and engaging in-person activities, from writing letters and crafting totes for pediatric patients at the Children's Miracle Hospital in Newark to silent art galleries, competitive game play, and more.
With record-breaking attendance, an impressive dedication to community service, and substantial funds raised for a vital cause, the 2023 SHUGSlympics made a powerful statement about the gaming community's capacity for philanthropy. This event is a reminder that gaming can be more than just entertainment; it can be a force for good, making a real difference in the lives of those in need.
Help the Seton Hall Gaming Sector Club reach its $5,000 fundraising goal. Contributions of any amount can significantly help to provide medical treatment, equipment, and support for children. Donations can be made year-round via Seton Hall Gaming Sector Club's Extra Life team.
