"Laudato Si" Challenge for Students

Pitch Your Ideas for Healing the Planet

Do you have ideas for caring for our common home?

The Laudato Si’ Challenge invites Seton Hall undergraduate students to work in teams to address pressing environmental issues with a practical, research-informed solution inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. Presented in recognition of the encyclical's tenth anniversary, the challenge offers prizes of $1,500 for first place, $750 for second place and $500 for third place. Final presentations will take place on April 21 at 11 a.m. and April 22 at 12:30 p.m.

Register for the Challenge

Interdisciplinary teams of two to five students from any major are encouraged to participate. Teams should identify a real-world issue — such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, food systems, water access, environmental justice or consumerism — and propose an actionable solution that is both practical and grounded in the values of Laudato Si’.

Registration is open from March 20 - April 8, 2026.

Final project submissions are due by April 17, 2026.
