Free Tax Prep for the Community Offered on April 5

students doing tax returnFor the second year in a row, Seton Hall University is partnering with United Way to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to its community. This initiative provides free tax return preparation services by experts for individuals and families with household incomes of up to $79,000. The opportunity is available to all qualified members of the Seton Hall community, including administrators, faculty, staff, students and our partners in Gourmet Dining and Securitas.

Registrants are invited to book a one-hour appointment for Friday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to have their tax returns prepared at no cost. Eligible members of the community are encouraged to register to secure their one-hour appointment, although walk-ins are welcome but may be directed to future events or those hosted by local programs. For a smooth experience, it is recommended that registrants check out this comprehensive list of what to bring to their appointment.

The Department of Accounting and Taxation, housed in the Stillman School of Business incorporates this program into its Tax Lab course, offering students not only the chance to participate in the VITA program but also to receive comprehensive IRS training. Students benefit from a blend of in-person and virtual volunteering options and regular mentorship from esteemed faculty members.
