Distinguished Business Analytics Lecture Series Featuring Industry Leaders Returns in Fall Semester
Friday, August 20, 2021
Presented by the Stillman School of Business, the second annual Executive Lessons Learned in Analytics and Advanced Technologies lecture series will return with virtual sessions. This year's focus is on leveraging analytics and associated applications to improve business impact and financial outcomes.
Bringing in four industry leaders, the series will also highlight the use of data-driven tools in the decision-making process and the impact of these on people and policymaking.
"We are thrilled to bring the Executive Lessons Learned in Analytics and Advanced Technologies series back this year," said Dean Joyce Strawser, Ph.D., of the Stillman School of Business. "There is so much to learn from these industry leaders, and I know attendees will enjoy and find value in the insights provided by the impressive list of speakers."
Professor Jay Liebowitz
Jay Liebowitz, D.Sc., visiting professor in the Stillman School's Department of Computing and Decision Sciences, will moderate the series. Liebowitz is also the M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) program co-director and one of the world's leading knowledge management researchers and practitioners. Moreover, a Stanford University study recognized Liebowitz as being among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in the field of AI, with a secondary discipline in Business.
"Business analytics is increasingly important, and the demand for the skills and the promising career outlook across industries prompts us to provide the Seton Hall community and the public the opportunity to learn from some of the top minds in the field," said Liebowitz.
Jeffrey Headd
The first lecturer is Jeffery J Headd, Ph.D., senior director of Commercial Data Sciences at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. Headd will give his lecture titled "Driving Measurable Business Impact Through Data Science at a Scale" on September 23.
From the presentation, attendees will learn how Janssen Pharmaceuticals has matured its data science capabilities from early proof of concept projects to a cornerstone capability enabling critical business initiatives.
Patrick McCreesh
Also presenting as part of the series is Patrick McCreesh, Ph.D., managing partner of Simatree. His lecture titled "When People Feel Stuck: How to Get People to Use Your Analytical Tools" will explain why people get stuck on their old ways and how to help them change their ways to use new tools and techniques. McCreesh will present on October 21.
Kimya Lee, Ph.D., Executive Director of Strategic Workforce Planning & Analysis for the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will be the third series presenter on November 11. As the series organizer, Liebowitz was quick to point out how fitting it is that Lee will be speaking on this date, given that it is Veteran's Day.
