Banner Insights

Project

Insights Preview

Banner Insights is Seton Hall University’s next step in creating a more data-informed and agile institution. As part of the Digital Transformation initiative, it will deliver a modern reporting and analytics environment that gives faculty and staff timely, accurate information to guide decision-making across the University.

Replacing the legacy ODS system, Banner Insights integrates data from Banner and other sources into a secure, cloud-based platform. It offers intuitive dashboards and analytics without burdening transactional systems, enabling more efficient and transparent access to information.

Project Goal

The project aims to improve data availability, access, and usability, empowering University stakeholders with self-service analytics and user-friendly tools that support data-driven decisions.

Project Leadership

The Reporting Subcommittee guides the transition from Seton Hall’s current ODS environment to Ellucian Insights, ensuring the University’s reporting needs are met and optimized. The group is responsible for reviewing and refining the reporting inventory, identifying and prioritizing critical information needs, and recommending improvements to data models and processes. It also evaluates the use of Cognos, Power BI, and native Insights capabilities, while coordinating communication across functional areas and ensuring appropriate testing, training, and support for users throughout the implementation.

Insights Implementation Status

May 2026
The Insights implementation continued to gain momentum as report development accelerated across multiple functional areas. As development efforts matured, an increasing number of reports moved from design and build activities into validation and production readiness.

A total of 118 reports reached the validation stage, 39 reports were ready for production, and 18 reports remained actively in development. Work also continued on custom datasets and custom objects needed to support more advanced reporting requirements and future reporting capabilities.

The focus now shifts toward validating completed reports, continuing development of the remaining reporting inventory, and advancing the data and technical dependencies required to support reporting in the Banner SaaS environment.

April 2026
The Insights implementation continued to progress while shifting to a more execution-focused phase centered on strengthening reporting processes and advancing report delivery.

Efforts this month focused on improving report development structure and tracking, with clearer ownership, defined stages, and better alignment to testing timelines. Report development is advancing, with a number of reports moving into validation, while dependencies related to data and custom objects continue to be addressed.

March 2026

In March, the Insights implementation made meaningful progress in report development, with a number of priority reports reaching an initial build stage and additional reports actively in progress. These reports represent foundational versions based on current functionality and will continue to be refined and expanded as additional capabilities are introduced in upcoming releases.

The team also began work on establishing an approval workflow and improving visibility into report development, helping to ensure better tracking, coordination, and alignment as reporting efforts expand. Efforts are also underway to further organize and refine the report inventory to support a more structured and sustainable approach moving forward.

Overall, the focus remains on building a strong reporting foundation while positioning the University to take advantage of enhanced functionality as it becomes available.
