Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council (AIAC)

The Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council (AIAC) provides strategic guidance on the responsible and mission-aligned use of artificial intelligence at Seton Hall University. Charged by the Provost and the Chief Information Officer, the council supports the thoughtful integration of AI across academic, research and administrative areas in alignment with the University’s Catholic mission and strategic plan, Inspiring Great Minds to Greater Purpose.

Artificial intelligence presents significant opportunities for higher education alongside important ethical and academic considerations. The AIAC serves as an advisory body to help ensure that AI use at Seton Hall University:

  • Supports teaching, learning, research and operational excellence
  • Upholds academic integrity, equity and transparency
  • Reflects Catholic moral teaching and respect for human dignity
  • Advances innovation while remaining grounded in institutional values

Key Areas of Focus

The council advises University leadership on the following areas:

  • AI Governance: Policies and guidelines for ethical and effective AI use in teaching, learning and research
  • Educational Practice: Best practices for AI-enhanced pedagogy and scholarship
  • Ethical Oversight: Alignment with Catholic moral principles, fairness and accountability
  • AI Literacy: Training and resources for faculty, staff and students
  • Strategic Advising: Emerging technologies, partnerships and institutional priorities
