Victor Gomez and Kevin Craig at Campus Takeover
Seton Hall Esports Manager and Assistant Professor Victor Gomez and former Seton Hall esports player Kevin Craig, now chief operating officer of Division One, took part in Campus Takeover at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on September 25, bringing Seton Hall perspectives to conversations about inclusion, career development and the future of collegiate esports.
Gomez joined the panel "Inclusivity & Representation in Esports & Gaming," while Craig participated in "Breaking into the Esports Industry." Together, their appearances highlighted how Seton Hall Esports connects students with opportunities that extend from their collegiate experience into their professional careers. Gomez and fellow panelists Molly Denz, a sports shoutcaster and Erica Javadpour, esports coordinator at the University of Maryland, discussed ways to build gaming communities that welcome people from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

"Events like Campus Takeover are valuable because they bring together people with different experiences across gaming, education and esports," Gomez said. "These conversations are an opportunity for all of us to continue learning from one another while thinking about how we can create stronger and more welcoming communities."
That connection between the collegiate experience and professional opportunity came into sharper focus during Craig’s session, where he shared practical guidance with students about gaining experience, building professional relationships and pursuing careers in esports. Craig brought the perspective of someone who has made that transition himself. A member of Seton Hall’s 2022 BIG EAST League of Legends championship team, he went on to build a career in collegiate esports, serving first as esports coordinator and later as assistant director of esports at Stony Brook University. In August 2026, Craig was named chief operating officer of Division One, a collegiate esports league, continuing a career path that began as a collegiate player.
For Gomez, seeing Craig return to the collegiate esports stage as an industry professional brought that progression full circle and reflected what Seton Hall Esports hopes students will carry with them beyond the University. "Seeing one of our former players now contributing his own voice and experiences made this one special," Gomez said. "That is what we want to see: students finding their own path and helping create opportunities for those coming after them."
Hosted by McDonald’s Gaming DMV and Gen.G, Campus Takeover brought together students, university administrators, educators and esports professionals for panels, professional development and networking focused on topics including representation, career development and wellness in gaming. The September 25 program included an opening keynote, a session on balancing gaming and mental wellness and a dedicated networking hour, giving students opportunities to ask questions and connect directly with professionals across the field. Campus Takeover continued September 26 with a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at Howard University’s Esports Lab.
'The students brought thoughtful questions, curiosity and genuine excitement about the possibilities within this industry," Gomez said. "I hope they left with new ideas, new connections and a better understanding of the paths available to them."
