Instructions For Individual Assignment

During the individual component of assessment, you will be asked to work independently on three tasks. The first assignment requires you to prepare a text response to a question (that is, a short essay) using Microsoft Word. The second assignment requires accessing a company’s financial information by performing a Web search and then using that information to prepare an Excel spreadsheet. In the third assignment, you will be asked to evaluate your team’s performance and your assessment experience.

Below are instructions for searching the Web for the financial statement data needed to complete the second task. You will also receive a copy of these instructions during the individual component of assessment. However, you are advised to practice this procedure now, so that you can complete the second assignment more quickly and efficiently during the assessment.

1. Go to the SEC’s EDGAR database (http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml).
2. Click on the link "Filings" (Edgar) on the left.
3. Click on the link “Search for Company Filings.”
4. In the “Company Name” box, enter the name of the company.
5. If the financial data for the company you entered does not appear, you may have entered a name that is somewhat different from the company’s name as it appears in the EDGAR database. For example, for Home Depot, EDGAR’s name is “Home Depot Inc”. You may find the accurate name in the “EDGAR CIK (Central Index Key) Lookup” which appears on top of the right column (opposite the “Search Companies and Filers” link).
6. Scroll down and click on the company’s most recent Form 10K.
7. Scroll down until you find the annual financial statement information for the company.

Please bring your laptop, your network and power cords on the day of Assessment. You will be asked to submit your individual assignments through Canvas.
