Virtual Conference Highlights the Role of Culture and Equity in Clinical Supervision

Psychological Counseling in progress The Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy at Seton Hall University will host its 27th Annual Supervision Conference on Friday, October 3, 2025, featuring a presentation by Melanie M. Wilcox, Ph.D., a nationally recognized counseling psychologist and educator. The event will be held virtually from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET.

Wilcox’s presentation, “Fostering Multicultural Orientation and Structural Competence in Supervision and Training,” will explore how clinical supervisors and educators can better respond to cultural and structural factors that influence both therapeutic practice and trainee development. Participants will learn how to integrate the multicultural orientation (MCO) and structural competence frameworks to create more equitable, inclusive and socially informed supervision experiences.

“We are honored to welcome Melanie Wilcox, whose scholarship and leadership in the field of culturally and structurally responsive training continue to shape national conversations in counseling psychology,” said Minsun Lee, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the counseling psychology Ph.D. program in Seton Hall’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media. “This conference reflects our commitment to advancing equity in education, training and mental health practice.”

The workshop offers participants four hours of continuing education and is co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) and Seton Hall University.

Designed for an introductory-to-intermediate level audience, the workshop is open to psychologists, counselors, mental health professionals and graduate students — particularly those interested in clinical supervision or seeking to deepen their understanding of how cultural and structural dynamics shape practice.

The registration fee is $80 for mental health professionals, with discounts available for Seton Hall alumni and non-Seton Hall graduate students. Current Seton Hall graduate students and their primary supervisors may attend at no cost.
